Our tutoring sessions are two hours per week, and take place online in a live, interactive, small-group learning format or in person, with each course providing a minimum 10:1 teacher-student ratio.

Reading and essay Writing enrichment (7-9 grade)
Reading and essay Writing enrichment (7-9 grade)
Reading and writing skills go hand in hand. The essay is one of the most stressful and sometimes tedious assignments a student can receive from a teacher. Our essay writing enrichment sessions take the stress and pressure out of writing by providing students with an interactive learning environment where our instructor guides students through the basics that contribute to effective writing. We aim to take the stress out of planning an essay by adhering to simple approaches to complete the task. Students will learn a step-by-step approach to writing an essay. Reading strategies are also essential and ultimately impact writing effectiveness. During our sessions, students are guided through close reading strategies to strengthen reading comprehension skills. In these sessions, students will gain a more robust understanding of the following:

Construct a cohesive and effective paragraph
Craft solid and clear thesis statements
Understand prompt writing expectations, specifically for the most common essay at the college level - the argumentative essay
Conduct and record effective research
Effectively outline an essay
Craft body paragraphs to cohesively present supporting evidence or arguments
Craft a strong conclusion paragraph that summarizes an argument and emphasizes its importance
Identify and use appropriate transitions throughout an essay
Understand various essay formats: Narrative, Compare/Contrast, Persuasive, Literary Analysis
Format an essay in the APA format (required by most colleges)
Strengthen reading and literary analysis
Identify and apply effective close-reading strategies to strengthen reading comprehension

During our learning sessions, students will engage in key concepts they will encounter throughout the school year. Learning and practicing these concepts gives students high confidence as they enter the classroom. Confidence = peace of mind, and it opens the door to mastery-level learning, which is always our goal! A strong foundation in mathematics is key to success in this competitive arena! In this course, students will focus on the following:
